Golden Globes 2013 Surprises & My Picks to Win

Golden Globe nominations have been released and there is obviously too much good TV out nowadays. Forget 10 Oscar nominees, we need 10 TV nominees!!

Best Television Series — Drama
Surprised to see: Game of Thrones and Mad Men left off the list after what was arguably the two's best seasons.
My pick to win: Breaking Bad, just because it's the last season. Otherwise, it's too hard to choose between the nominated shows.

Best Television Series — Comedy Or Musical
Surprised to see: First of all, 'comedyor musical'? Can we throw out the 'or musical' category? Glee is a comedy. Smash and Nashville are dramas. I don't care whether or not they have music. Period. As for nominees, I wish I live to see the day that Community or Happy Endings get some love. And that Ben & Kate, The Mindy Project and Up All Night become big hits.
My pick to win: Girls. Girls. Girls.

Best Performance by an Actor In A Television Series – Drama
No surprises here.
My pick to win: I know not everyone loved it, but I think Steve Buscemi killed it on Boardwalk Empire this year. He was delusional, desperate and perfect. More likely that it'll go to Cranston or Lewis though.

Best Performance by an Actress In A Television Series – Drama
Surprised to see: Connie Britton? For serious? I know people are obsessed with her.... but I just can't. I liked her on Spin City? Is that acceptable? Anyway, I think Monica Potter is doing award-worthy work on Parenthood and it is a shame she isn't nominated. Does this season count for next year?
My pick to win: Don't like/watch any of these. Claire Danes will win probably.

Best Performance by an Actress In A Television Series — Comedy Or Musical
Surprised to see: I know Julia Louis-Dreyfus is an awards' show darling, but I don't think she is that great on Veep. Am I alone on this?
My pick to win: Dunham.

Best Performance by an Actor In A Television Series — Comedy Or Musical
Surprised to see: Baldwin, just because I'm sick of him and 30 Rock
My pick to win: Louis.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Surprised to see: ALL these categories lumped together. It's ridiculous! How can I even choose?!
My pick(s) to win: If we're talking comedy - Max or Eric are always a joy to watch. For drama - I would have liked to see a whole new list of nominees including any of the Mad Men guys (particularly Jared Harris or Vincent Kartheiser), Jack Hutson from Boardwalk Empire or of course Peter Dinklage from Game of Thrones for the Blackwater speech scene alone. And someday, Walter Goggins from Justified please.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Surprised to see: Again with ALL the categories. Plus, Panettiere? Are.You.Serious?
My pick to win: Can I pick NONE of these people and trade them for Christina Hendricks (Mad Men) or Lena Headey (Game of Thrones).

And just a general rant on the whole mini series category.... What a mess! I'm sick of shows that get cancelled entering themselves as a mini-series. You are not a mini-series. You got cancelled. And Downton Abbey WAS a mini series, swept it, and then decided to do a second season and become a series. And American Horror Story is sort of a series, but it changes every season so now it's a mini-series. Ugh.

Don't forget to watch the Golden Globes on Sunday (and click here for a schedule of Awards Show Season

I am a fan of Nashville (insert comment here), but I do not believe any of the nominations deserved to be on the list. Great picks on your list. Can't wait to see the GG's this Sunday :-)

Oh, I LOVE Nashville! Even bought the CD already! Just don't think it's award-winning TV. Good drama, good music - yes.
